The Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) has announced the appointment of Jill Rodney as its new Chief Executive. Ms Rodney will commence her full-time role on 31 January 2011, and replaces Alan Potter who is retiring after 20 years as Chief Executive.
Jill joins the IBMS with a remit to ensure that it continues to thrive as the leading professional body for biomedical scientists in the UK, setting professional standards, accrediting university degrees, offering biomedical science courses and awarding its own qualifications. She comes with an excellent understanding of the healthcare sector, having enjoyed broad ranging experience in the acute and community setting, and of policy development and delivery.
Most recently, Jill was Chief Executive Officer of Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she managed the turnaround of Milton Keynes Hospital from a ‘zero’ to ‘three-star’ performer, which led to subsequent foundation status.
Previously, Ms Rodney served as Chief Executive of Oxfordshire NHS Community Trust, Director of Service and Strategic Development at the NHS South East Regional Office, and Director of Operations and Deputy Chief Executive at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. Jill began her career as a clinical pharmacist before moving into management at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. She also served as a divisional managing director in the private sector.
In welcoming the appointment, IBMS President Ken Rae said: “Jill’s top-flight experience and great leadership skills will be an enormous asset in moving the IBMS forward. Jill understands the need to ensure we can respond successfully to the rapidly changing nature of the wider heath economy, the evolving career structures of biomedical scientists and the vital importance of maintaining the professional standards of our members.”
Jill Rodney said: “I'm delighted to be joining IBMS. It is a great organisation that represents a large, highly skilled and qualified membership and provides a vast range of vital services across the NHS, the private healthcare sector and beyond. The changes we all face across the wider healthcare environment present both a challenge and an enormous opportunity. I'm looking forward to understanding more about how we should change and respond in order to seize these opportunities to ensure a successful future for the IBMS and the members and patients it serves.”
