One of the outcomes of the brain and spinal cord survey was to increase the number of training facilities available in which APTS could attend to refresh their knowledge or gain the skills to undertake this technique.
This is with a view to increasing donations nationally for vital research projects.
This also ties in with the RSPH Level 4 Diploma as students are required to evidence they are competent in this procedure.
The team working on this project will be in the anatomy department of Sussex university undertaking spinal cord removal today with a view to the facility being potentially available for training APT in the near future. We are also looking to see if it will be a suitable venue for a training video to be produced for APTS to utilise. We are also in discussion with venues in the North and will be working with those mortuaries who have also offered local training.
AAPT are working closely with the HTA, the brain banks and the research charities and will feedback to all parties and members as soon as possible.
