Congratulations to Christopher Lambourne RSciTech MAAPT in achieving the Registered Science Technician award
The AAPT worked closely with the Science Council to trailblaze a new route to Registered Science Technician for AAPT members who hold the RSPH Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Science (Anatomical Pathology Technology).
Christopher has become the second AAPT member to successfuly achieve RSciTech through this new route and spoke to the AAPT about his experience.
You must be very proud to become only the second APT to achieve the RSciTech award through the new shortened application process. Did you find applying straightforward?
I am extremely proud of achieving RsciTech registration and found the application process straight forward and I made good use of the additional literature provided on the AAPT website.
Can you give your main reason for wishing to achieve the RSciTech registration?
Two main reasons: as s a requirement for applying for the RSPH Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science (APT) and to be part of a registered profession that supports my work as an Anatomical Pathology Technologist.
The AAPT provided guidance documents and other useful references within the AAPT website. Did you find these useful as you completed the application?
The guidance for both applicant and supporter was very helpful, including the short online videos and suggested examples from other applicants.
Once the award is achieved it must then be maintained through CPD and adherence to the standards. Is this daunting or a new professional challenge to overcome?
I have been regularly completing CPD activities via read, test, reflect (RTR) exercises, AAPT webinars and lectures prior to completing the RsciTech and found accruing the required CPD hours is reasonably achievable and logged on the CPDme platform.
Any particular good examples of meeting a standard you used that you can share with others?
When completing the evidence reports explain your thinking behind the decisions you made and the potential affects this may cause to show your understanding.
Use the AAPT CPDme platform to record your CPD, undertake the RTR exercies as useful broader CPD.
