William Purves Post Mortem Reconstruction Surgery course

A report from Yasmine Thomas MAAPT Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist at NNUH

The course was held over five days at the University of St Andrews School of Medicine where we focused on cranial and facial reconstruction, soft tissue injuries and the application of airbrush cosmetics on deceased with severe trauma.

Ten students were taught specialist techniques by the highly skilled embalming tutor Martin Jeffrey.

Martin has over 33 years of experience in the funeral profession and was an incredible tutor, his passion and care for the deceased is exceptional.

Martin provided in depth one to one teaching, guiding students to achieve the complete rebuild of a badly traumatised head, bringing the deceased back to a dignified and identifiable state.

The new specialist skills I have learned from this course will benefit me greatly as an APT and I am excited to share my new skills with my colleagues.
