Over recent weeks there have been ongoing investigations across Scotland into the availability of ashes to parents after cremation of babies.
Practices differ across the country and there are currently enquiries at most crematoria so AAPT will decline to comment further until investigations are complete. One issue raised by Sands was that parents were worried babies had been cremated en masse so ashes were been co-mingled and could not be returned. There is no evidence this has happened but it does raise some of the issues that AAPT raised in 2011 in response to the consultation on fetal disposal.
