Families of Covid-19 victims have been asked to give consent to post-mortem examinations amid a shortage of tissue for research into the disease.
Pathologists have been “inundated” with pleas from researchers for tissue samples so they can discover more about the way coronavirus affects the body and find ways to treat it.
Yet there have been fewer than 50 post-mortems throughout the crisis carried out for research purposes due to the strain placed on the system at the peak.
